Mike
Garner is the founder of Rainbow Dogs. He left his full time job with the
Rehabilitation Department of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home to set up Rainbow Dogs in
order to concentrate on his own training and behaviour
work. He continues to work at
Battersea on a part time basis. During his time at
Battersea he has worked with hundreds
of dogs from an enormous range of breeds, ages, sizes,
temperaments, training needs and
behaviour problems. This work has included performing
comprehensive temperament
assessments to assist in the dog’s further training, behaviour
modification and ultimately
rehoming.
Mike has gained an NVQ
level III in Animal Care and has been studying animal behaviour
for several years. He is currently studying for B.Sc
Psychology at Birkbeck
College,
University
of London. He is a student
member of the Kennel
Club Accreditation Scheme
for Instructors in Dog Training and Canine
Behaviour
and is working towards
Accreditation status. He has successfully trained dogs
from Bronze through to Gold
standard of the Kennel
Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme. He has attended many training
courses and seminars over the past few years including those
offered by: John Rogerson,
Angela Stockdale, Sarah Fisher, Barbara Sykes, Gail Fisher and many others.
Mike started his working career in IT, which gave him invaluable experience in
analysing
problems and developing solutions. Following a life-long
passion for dogs and interest in
their behaviour he decided to switch from his successful career
as an IT consultant to
embark on his vocation in canine care and behaviour.
Mike strongly believes that reward based training is the most effective and
ethical
training method available. He has a special interest in training deaf dogs.
All the services Mike offers relate to work he has successfully undertaken in
the past. He
is fully insured.
